Round 19

A point-scoring shootout saw Cronulla claim a 40-36 victory in their round 19 match against the Wentworthville Magpies.

These two sides produced one of the games of the season back in round nine when the Magpies came from 18-0 down early to claim a two point 30-28 win over the Sharks at Henson Park but this time it was the Sharks who claimed the 2 points on offer.

The Sharks were virtually unstoppable in the first 40, racing in six tries in racking up 34 points before half time but with their opponents scoring 22 of their own – for a 56 point first half tally – it was still anyone’s game in the second half.

Both teams tightened up defensively, with the Sharks adding just one converted try to their total and while allowing the Magpies to cross the stripe three times, but in the end run the Sharks managed to register an important win with finals approaching.

With 3 losses in the past 4 games, the Magpies will this week be looking for a victory when they take on the Illawarra Cutters at WIN Stadium this weekend.

Cronulla Sharks 40 {Tries: N Gardner, J O'Neill, D Holdsworth, S Sorensen, G Rose, M Prior, T Sopoaga, Goals: D Holdsworth 6) def. Wentworthville Magpies 36 ( Tries: B Faraimo 2, H Raiwalui 2, D Alvaro, I Maliota, J Hunt Goals: L Kelly 4)
